This action is not lazy in the sense of sloth; it is deliberate deferral. It respects the user's bandwidth and device capability as the conservator respects the fragility of aged paper. The paste is applied (the video source is fetched) precisely when it is needed, creating a bond that feels instantaneous because its groundwork was laid with such care.
What we achieve with this method is not merely a performance metric, but a perceptual integrity. The page feels solid, composed. The video appears not as an interruption, but as a revelation within a stable context. Its loading is a smooth transition from promise to fulfillment, rather than a desperate scramble to fill a collapsing void. It is the difference between a restored manuscript that lies flat and whole, its repairs invisible, and one where every glued piece pulls and puckers the page around it.
In the end, the conservator’s goal is the long-term preservation of the artifact's essence. Our goal, as front-end craftspeople, is the preservation of the user's experience. By treating heavyweight media not as mandatory upfront declarations, but as delicate fragments to be bonded on demand, we practice a form of digital conservation. We build pages that hold together, gracefully, letting the content shine without the stress marks of a forced, premature load.
